About NoMoreTV.com
I’m giving up TV for one year.
Now, when I say I’m giving up TV, I mean I’m giving up watching TV on my TV. I’m still going to watch my shows, I’m just not going to watch them on my TV or on my DVR. I’m going to watch everything online.
I think the time has come where we can get rid of our TV sets and do away with broadcast television. I’m not sure it’s going to be easy, but I think it’s doable. The only way to find out is to do it.

Great idea. I think this is very doable. I’ll be interested to see what snags you run into. For me I like watching CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News. Not sure I’ve found an online version of each in realtime.

I googled the phrase “no TV for a year” to see if anyone was thinking of doing this, because I am thinking of banning TV, too. I have a newborn and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no TV for children under two, however, I feel the temptation will be too great to mindlessly put on “Jerry Springer” or some such nonsense while I am supposed to be spending quality time with my son, thus I think it will be best to have no TV in the house at all. Online shows are different because they require effort from the viewer, thus what is watched is much more discriminatory than broadcast TV, which is so easy to access.
In the late nineties I did not have a TV and those were my most fun years. I did not have a PC then, either. I went to the movies at least once a week and read and went outside a lot more. I am hoping to repeat that with my new ban of the TV.
Knowing there is someone else on the planet who is NOT watching TV will be a great motivation for me, thank you. I will check in on you from time to time.

I Googled “no more tv” and your site came up first in the results. I had our tv portion of our AT&T U-Verse service shut off today.
It’s very liberating! Not that I was a big tv-watcher anyway, but what a waste of money.

I’m off of broadcast television, too. I’m turning in my DVR and cable boxes tomorrow at Charter and saving myself about $800. I know that I’ll go through withdrawal like anyone else who gives up such a habit, but this will be a good thing for me. No more mindless eating in front of the TV after I get home from another stressful day at work. No more a slave to the DVR. Mostly all the TV shows that I watch now will eventualy become available on DVD so I’ll get themn via Netflix. I just have to practice patience. Trust me, I can’t believe I’m doing this right in the middle of True Blood and Dexter Season 3! But I feel really good with this decision and look forward to following others online who have decided to say no to Broadcast TV.
